How to become a Master in your field.

There is a widely held belief that the great masters became great because they had a special genius or talent. We imagine creativity and brilliance appears out of nowhere to bless a lucky few. And we either have it, or we don't. But this is not true! Everyone has the potential to be a master.

The great news is that there process to mastery we can all follow to unlock our own genius, creativity and intuitive powers - in whatever field we choose.

Robert Greene in his remarkable book Mastery shares the secrets to becoming a Master. He reveals the path to mastery that is available to all of us - available to you!

Mastery is one of the best books I've read in 2021. It's a 9/10 book for me. I marked up and earmarked so many pages, finding page after page of inspiration. Greene shifted my perspective of success and opened my mind to what we are really capable of; if we're willing to put in the work and commit ourselves to the process of mastery.

Here are 10 of the eye-opening secrets to mastery that stood out for me. Insights that I'd love to share with you because they may be transformational for you too:

Mastery Secret #1

At your birth a seed is planted. That seed is your uniqueness. It wants to grow, transform itself, and flower to its full potential. It has a natural, assertive energy to it.

Your Life's Task is to bring that seed to flower, to express your uniqueness through your work. You have a destiny to fulfill.

Mastery Secret #2

The process of realising your Life's Task comes in three stages. First, you must connect or reconnect with your inclinations, that sense of uniqueness. Second, you must look at the career path you are already on or are about to begin. To do this you will need to enlarge your concept of work itself. Finally, you must see your career or vocational path as a journey with twists and turns rather than a straight line. Eventually, you will hit upon a field, or niche, that suits you perfectly.

Mastery Secret #3

In order to master a field, you must love the subject and feel a profound connection to it. Your interest must ascend the field itself and border on the religious.

Mastery Secret #4

When it comes to mastering a skill, time is the magic ingredient.

Mastery Secret #5

You cannot have everything in the present. The road to Mastery requires patience. You will have to keep your focus on five or ten years down the road, when you reap the rewards of your efforts.

The difference between those who succeed and those who don't is not simply a matter of determination, but more of trust and faith.

Personal development book recommendation: Robert Greene’s Mastery is a must-read book to help you be more successful.

Mastery Secret #6

By nature, we humans shrink from anything that seems possibly painful or overtly difficult. This is the path of amateurs. To attain mastery, you must adopt Resistance Practice. The principle is simple - you go in the opposite direction of all of your natural tendencies when it comes to process.

Mastery Secret #7

Life is short, and your time for learning and creativity is limited. Without any guidance, you can waste valuable years trying to gain knowledge and practice from various sources. Instead, you must follow the examples set by Masters throughout the ages and find the proper mentor.

The mentor-protege relationship is the most efficient and productive form of learning.

Mastery Secret #8

Often the greatest obstacles to our pursuit of mastery come from the emotional drain we experience in dealing with the resistance and manipulation of people around us. We project onto people our emotional needs and desires of the moment.

Mastery is the ability to see people in the most realistic light possible, moving past our tendency to idealise and demonise people, and seeing and accepting them as they are.

Mastery Secret #9

Understand: it is the choice of where to direct his or her creative energy that makes the Master.

This is law that you must engrave deeply in your mind and never forget: your emotional commitment to what you are doing will be translated directly into your work.

Mastery Secret #10

Though intense absorption in a particular field over a long period of time, Masters reach a point where all of their study becomes internalised, and they are no longer seeing the part but gain an intuitive feel for the whole. They literally see or sense the dynamic, how everything interacts organically, and they can intuit patterns, anticipate trends and see solutions in an instant.

These secrets are just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much magic waiting for you in this remarkable book. I definitely recommend Mastery if you want to become a leader, success and master in your life you need to buy this book.
